Lake Miriam Publix will be razed this summer ahead of a remodel

Here’s what to expect — from the demolition and rebuild to where to shop in the meantime.

Attention shoppers. As first reported by The Ledger, Publix plans to close its supermarket in the Lake Miriam Square plaza on Saturday, July 6 to begin a full remodel. The store at 4730 S. Florida Ave. will be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up, similar to a recent remodel at the Oakbridge Centre Publix on Harden Boulevard. According to the current project timeline, you can expect to walk the brand new aisles by summer of 2025.

Several changes are planned for the store, first built in 1978:

  • A bigger store footprint at 63,830 sqft — a 4,297-sqft increase from the current one — that will include the space of the former Aprons Cooking School
  • Mezzanine with a seating area for customers
  • New liquor store + pharmacy in former neighboring retail space

Lake Miriam Square is home to many other businesses, including Gosh! Asian Bistro & Sushi, Glam Color Bar, and SoFresh, which tells us it will remain open as usual. When the Oakbridge Publix underwent a remodel, other shops in the center stayed open, so keep an eye on your favorite nearby businesses for updates during construction.

A satellite view of Publix and Publix GreenWise Market locations circled on a map. The stores are in shopping centers on either side of South Florida Avenue.

Is this your preferred grocery store? Don’t fret — the former Publix GreenWise Market, located just across the street, has recently become a traditional Publix supermarket. Future plans have not been announced for the original GreenWise Market once the new Lake Miriam store is reopened.

If you’re looking for another Publix, the next closest supermarkets are in the Oakbridge Center and Southgate Shopping Center. Both are about a 10-minute drive, depending on traffic.
