Today is National Plan for Vacation Day – the last Tuesday of January encouraging Americans to plan their paid time off (PTO) for the rest of the year at the start of a new year.
Usually known as one to make spontaneous trips (guilty as charged – Jessica here), this year I’m trying to #PlanAhead by already having approved PTO for my vacation to London this upcoming March.
Will you be planning a trip to a new destination this year? Or will you go to your favorite vacation spot? For those who need a little inspiration, check out these recommendations from LALtoday readers. Our pick would be Debbie C.’s adventure to Finger Lakes District of New York State or Leslie J.’s relaxing time on Anna Maria Island.
For those looking to hit the skies:
- Take a trip to Lakeland’s Sister City – Richmond Hill, Canada.
- Visit the 6AM City headquarters in Greenville, S.C.
Lucky for us, we have two major airports (that offer commercial flights) around an hour or so from downtown – Tampa International Airport (TPA) + Orlando International Airport (MCO). And with our experience, we’ve found the best way to look for flights is through a quick “Google Flights” search. See how it works here.
For those looking to put the pedal to the metal:
- Check out this day trip guide from Lakeland to Daytona Beach, Homosassa, DeLand, Tarpon Springs, Mount Dora, or Lake Wales.
- Experience 12 of Florida’s biggest tourist attractions.
- Try these Central Florida #MustDos.
For those who would rather not have to pack a bag:
- Enjoy the perfect hike along a Central Florida trail.
- Cross off several of the ‘50+ things to do in Lakeland.’
- Visit all the hot spots considered to be Lakeland’s version of the Hollywood sign.
- Spend the day around town without spending a dime doing free activities.
- Plan a #DayTrip to Winter Haven.
