Spring Break — five days to fill for Polk County Public School families. If you’re looking to get the kids out this week, we’ve rounded up 6 options within 90 minutes of downtown Lakeland.
Beaches
Consider a couple of beaches an hour or so away that tend to be more laid back, at least in our experience.
- Treasure Island , 90 minutes | Treasure Island’s Sunset Beach is a quieter option to its popular counterpart St. Pete Beach. The area is mostly residential, leaving little room for bustling beach hotels + party crowds.
- Fort DeSoto Beach , 90 minutes | Fort DeSoto Beach offers wildlife, plus access to five interconnected keys. Pro tip: we recommend packing a lunch for this option.
Theme Parks
Not interested in the Spring Break influx at Disney or Universal? You’re in luck.
- Peppa Pig Theme Park , 40 minutes | Next door to Legoland, this park features rides, attractions, and meet-and-greets with Peppa and friends. Tickets for a one-day visit start at $34.99.
- Dinosaur World , 27 minutes | Experience hundreds of life-size dinosaurs, exhibits, boardwalks, and playgrounds at this prehistoric park. Tickets start at $19.95 for adults. Pro tip: your leashed furry friends are welcome to visit with you.
Other attractions
Looking for other recommendations that don’t include characters or sand?
- Bok Tower Gardens , 50 minutes | Wander 50 acres of gardens, plus a 2.5-acre children’s garden including boardwalks, play areas, and room for exploring.
- Tampa Riverwalk , 52 minutes | Bike, skate, jog, or walk down Tampa’s Riverwalk, then, consider adding playtime at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park’s interactive fountains.
