Hey Lakeland, Kaylee here. 👋 As we say goodbye to planes whizzing above head + revel in joy about Born and Bread now being open on Wednesdays, we also welcome in a new week (with more around-town excitement). From a hike and a civic meeting to speaking with civil rights activists and petting all the puppies around Lake Mirror – the theme of your plans this week has officially been dubbed “alotta walk + alotta talk.”

So grab your calendar, a puppy – and your most gregarious, athletic friend – and get to scheduling. 📆

Circle B Bar Reserve Nature/Photography Walk | Tues., April 9 | 9-11 a.m. | Circle B Bar Reserve | $15 | Take a morning jaunt (and a couple photos) of scenic Circle B – viewing a wide variety of wildlife like birds in breeding plumage, alligators + snakes. Meet at the parking lot by the picnic shelters. #Pro Tip: Bring your camera, binoculars, good shoes, water, and a curious attitude. 📸

Public Meeting: S. Florida Avenue Road Diet | Tues., April 9 | 4-7 p.m. | RP Funding Center | Free | Wondering what’s going on with South Florida Avenue? This public meeting will allow citizens to drop by for a chance to review plans and discuss the project with traffic planners.

Art and Social Justice | Wed., April 10 | 6-9 p.m. | Polk Museum of Art | Free | Watch clips from the award winning PBS documentary “Freedom Riders” + engage in an interactive discussion with civil rights activists to learn how organized nonviolent civil disobedience can propel the course of social justice and inspire generations to come. 🎥

2019 Walk for Animals | Sat., April 13 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. | Frances Langford Promenade at Lake Mirror | Free | Meet the myriad of four-legged friends who live in Lakeland + celebrate 40 years of SPCA Florida saving lives of the animals in our region. Though the event is free, you can register as a participant ($35), vendor ($50-$125), or sponsor ($250-$25,000) and raise funds for Lakeland to become “no kill by 2025” – all while enjoying food, games, bounce houses + music. 🐶

Noises Off | Sun., April 14 | 2:30 p.m. | Lakeland Community Theatre | $24 | If Hamilton is your jam(ilton), make sure to buy tickets for Lakeland Community Theatre’s last performance of “Noises Off.” The show inside a show is about the opening of a British touring company as they hurriedly run through a final dress rehearsal.
