Robots now delivering meals on Florida Polytechnic University’s campus

Students can now order food online, and an AI-powered food delivery robot will bring it directly to their location. Would you like to see this tech in another part of Lakeland?

These robots can cross streets, climb curbs, and even drive through the rain.

Florida Polytechnic University, Lakeland’s most high-tech campus, is taking another step toward innovation — this time with AI-powered food delivery robots.

Students and staff can now use an app to order meals from on-campus restaurants. Then, one of Starship Technologies’ autonomous robots will roll to their location with their order in tow. Florida Poly joins 60+ other universities with Starship partnerships.

The battery-powered robots use AI, machine learning, and computer vision-based navigation to travel on sidewalks alongside pedestrians. Using a sensor network with radar and 12 cameras, they can map out the campus and avoid obstacles.

Should food delivery robots be used in more places around Lakeland? Would you order from one? Share your robot thoughts.
