This may sound pretty *shocking,* but DYK that in just 30-min., you could save $100+ a year on your electric bill and reduce your carbon footprint at the same time? Say *watt?*

We recently got the chance to talk with an energy analyst at Lakeland Electric (over the phone + for free) about how we can save some money on our electric bill – and we wanted to share the wealth of knowledge we learned from our experience with y’all on how you can #TryThis for yourselves.

From replacing our incandescent light bulbs to LED ones to learning how weather really does affect our A/C, here are the (nuts) + *bolts* of what we learned. ⚡

What we tried (with pricing):

We scheduled a phone call with Energy Analyst Jimmy through the Virtual-Home Energy Audit website (the service is free). On the scheduled date and time, Jimmy called and “walked” us through a questionnaire to help us find out how we can save money on our electricity bill.

The whole call took about 30-min. (perfect to accomplish when you have a short break in the day), and – by the end of it we had a whole new game plan on how we could save on our electric bill in our apartment.

What not to miss:

Asking allllll the questions. The knowledge of the Energy Analysts is vast so don’t be afraid to speak up and ask any question you want. Jimmy was personable and both shared insights to questions we didn’t know we even had and led the conversation with ease, making sure we understood what he was asking and suggesting the whole way through.

Even when we weren’t sure the exact answer to some of the questions he asked (like how old our A/C unit was), he took an educated guess, based on his experience. Jimmy also gave us some pretty cool insider tipslike asking our apartment to clean the coils in the A/C to save on our bill.

What we’re still talking about:

The fact that we could have a free energy audit done for our apartment. Before our call, we weren’t sure how much control we could have on saving money on our electricity bill while living in an apartment. Or that energy audits actually existed for apartment dwellers.

Yet, regardless of whether you’re looking to save money on your electricity bill for your apartment, your owned home, or even, your office building, Lakeland Electric will send you an energy toolset (packaged in an easy-to-read PDF), with suggestions. Like DYK, you can save $24 + reduce up to 294 lbs of carbon per year by lowering your heat setting from 70°F to 68°F?
