ICYMI: March 2019 – Historic home tour + dancing avocados in Polk County

#ICYMI

Before we begin April, we’re here to reminisce the best things we saw this March – like new business announcements + creation of murals... and forget the maybe not so pleasant things like the endless pollen + time change (#ProTip: add in extra time to rest and nap if you’re still trying to cope with Daylight Saving Time).

This month, our readers were intrigued about abandoned theme parks, Tiger Town, Blinky + notable Florida women from the past.

So, ICYMI – here are the top conversations we had with you this month:

Top conversation: 6 female entrepreneurs in LAL who are slaying the game

In Lakeland alone, thousands of females are making incredible strides. From European chefs trained in the south of Germany to Outer Mongolia-raised former missionary kids we’re watching these six women, and we think you should, too.

We asked you which famous female entrepreneur worked as a hairdresser to make ends meet and 40% of you guessed Arianna Huffington, founder of Huffington Post. The correct answer was Jin Sook Chang, founder of Forever 21.

➡️ Here are a few more of March’s most read stories.

Top clicked link: How to recycle + acceptable material (City of Lakeland) came in the top spot with 211 clicks. Although recycling is a common practice, we still have endless questions. Like why can envelopes be recycled but soiled paper cannot? And DYK, the city collects over four million lbs of recycled material per month? That’s equivalent to 400 elephants.

➡️ Here are other links which were clicked a ton.

  • The 2019 Spring Haus Mrkt, with their summer date set for Fri., June 14, features over 40 artisans, crafters + makers, and welcomes 500+ guests.
  • Peep Haven Magazine’s gallery, with submissions from readers of the top picks for the sexiest man in Polk County – in an effort to re-define the word “sexy.”

Top comment: What brought you to Lakeland?
“A job. But if we had known about the groovy dancing avocados, we would have come sooner.” – Heidi A.W.

What do you want us to talk about in April? Anything from new developments and our city’s history, to Mediterranean cuisine and local events. Let us know.
