If there’s one thing we know, it’s that the stomach is the way to anyone’s heart. That’s why we’re talking about everyone’s first love language: food. More specifically, we’re talking about how Lakeland’s restaurants prevent food waste + looking at an app that could help Lakelanders join the cause.

Presently, multiple Lakeland establishments aim to eliminate food waste in a multitude of ways. For example, Palace Pizza regularly donates their leftover food to individuals experiencing homelessness at the end of the night. Additionally, lucky patrons at Kentucky Avenue bars occasionally receive leftover pies when there’s more to disperse.

Now, what if we told you that you could join the fight against food waste? Enter: Too Good to Go, an app that allows restaurants to sell non purchased food items that would otherwise be tossed in the trash.

Here’s how it works: users open the app, select a local restaurant, and reserve + pay for their surprise bag. When they arrive at the restaurant, they receive a to-go bag that could contain multiple items from the menu. The best part? You’re typically spending between $3.99-$6.99 per bag.

The app, which launched in 2016, tauts 51.5 million users worldwide, 116 million meals saved, and 1,273 participating establishments. Currently, there are no restaurants participating in Lakeland, Tampa, Orlando, or Miami.

Would you like to see Too Good To Go (or a similar application) become commonplace in Lakeland? Tell us what you think and what restaurants you’d like to see start using it, here.
