In addition to a completely new Publix, the plaza also got a makeover for its shops and restaurants.

We asked for your favorite foodie destination in Lakeland, and readers sent us to the Shoppes at Lake Miriam Crossing plaza. Businesses in this shopping center have waited patiently since the Publix was demolished last summer — it’s a great time to support these locally owned restaurants before the supermarket reopens in November.

Design your own bowl at SoFresh, or pick one of the signature recipes — either way, everything’s customizable.

Reader Neva M. suggests a salad, bowl, or wrap from SoFresh, because “EVERYTHING is sooo fresh!” Each menu item is customizable, so add your favorite protein or mix-ins to make it your own.

We ran a sushi bar bracket in 2023, and Gosh! Asian Bistro & Sushi made it to the semi-final round. Reader Nicolas L. told us to try the Japanese Bagel Roll filled with fresh salmon and cream cheese.

Top rated

Getting good reviews is a piece of pie for Palace Southside. The Italian restaurant earned the plaza’s top Yelp rating thanks to its housemade entrees and wine selection. Try a plate of pasta to see for yourself.

Coming in second place is Bahia Bowls, a quick spot for acai bowls loaded with toppings. Reviewers rave over the welcoming atmosphere and healthier snack options.

Fan favorite

When Publix closed, Lakelanders lamented the loss of the Chinese food counter in the store. Thankfully, the owners behind it opened their own storefront in the same plaza, meaning you can now get beloved dishes, like bourbon chicken + General Tso’s, from Lake Miriam Chinese Kitchen.

You can build your own ramen bowl at Oksumi, too.

Editor’s pick

Connor here. For me, nothing beats a big bowl of soup, and I’m partial to ramen. Head to Oksumi Ramen & Bar, where my go-to is the chashu paitan ramen with a slurp-worthy chicken broth and pork belly. Take it to-go or enjoy it inside next to the open kitchen.
