Should Buc-ees build in Polk County?

Based on research out of Polk State College, Polk County could be the perfect spot for the fan-favorite gas station franchise — but do our readers agree?

Buc-ee’s is set to open its third and fourth locations in Florida over the next two years in Ocala and St. Lucie County — should location No. 5 be in Polk? We asked, and you answered.

We recently shared how Polk State College grad Jackson Lord completed a research project to determine an ideal next location for Buc-ee’s, a franchise that markets itself as being “part gas station, part Walmart.”

According to Lord’s findings, exit 48 off I-4 near Polk City and Lake Alfred came out as the top spot based on traffic patterns, available land, and proximity.

While Buc-ee’s has no current plans to build in Polk, Lord’s research got us curious about what our readers + followers thought of the prospect. According to our survey:

  • 93.1% voted in favor of the build
  • 6.9% voted against it

We also brought the conversation to our social media. After garnering nearly 170 comments across Instagram and Facebookyou all are really passionate about your Beaver Nuggets — here’s a few that stood out.

  • “Any negative aspects of this would be offset by a BBQ brisket sammy.” — @hazzmatt0_o
  • “As much as I like Bucee’s and it’d bring good paying jobs, would they clear cut the forest nearby that exit? We’ve already lost so much.” — @er_o_l
  • “This is the fastest YES I have ever given to anything.” — @kanrakixystix
  • “Love Bucee’s... but that would make I-4 CRAZIER than it already is, even with road widening.” — Reader Betty H.
