Lakeland Christian School just opened its new high school building, and it was worth the wait.

The three-story, 42,000-sqft building — named in honor of longtime educators Dr. Mike and Mary Sligh — was dedicated to the couple during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Aug. 11.

Dr. Sligh started his journey at LCS as a fourth grade student, and went on to serve at LCS for 51 years as a social studies and Bible teacher, athletic director, head boys basketball coach, principal, and Head of School before retiring in June 2023.

The $19.1 million Mike and Mary Sligh High School Building was funded through the Forging a Firm Foundation capital campaign and features:

  • 26 classrooms + two flex spaces
  • A Student Life Suite
  • A Guidance Suite
  • Upper School offices
  • A teacher’s workplace
  • The Mike Musick Sr. Science Wing, featuring state-of-the-art science labs and a memorial wall honoring the longtime science teacher and coach
