New renderings have been released, giving us a few more clues as to what the “Under-I Project” could end up looking like. The 9.75-acre urban community park will quite literally be located under the I-4 bridge decks in downtown Orlando on property that belongs to FDOT.

The renderings of the space feature five blocks: Heritage Block, Sports Block, Play Block, Unity Block, and Market Block. Think of it as a giant outdoors Armature Works concept. Construction is expected to begin the summer of 2021 after the I-4 Ultimate construction project wraps up next year.

Sports Block

Bounded by W. Washington St. + W. Central Blvd., this block will feature:

  • An indoor-size soccer field, two futsal pitches, four basketball + multi-purpose courts, a space for shuffleboard, and a CrossFit facility.
  • ¼ mile running track.
  • Table sports – like checkers, dominos + ping pong.
  • Picnic tables, restrooms, and a two-story park administration pavilion.
  • An area for food trucks and other tournament activities.

Heritage Block

North of W. Washington St., this block will feature:

  • Three interchangeable mural walls.
  • The Parramore Heritage Walk that highlights significant Parramore figures.
  • A gateway to the Parramore neighborhood.

Play Block

Between W. Central Blvd. and W. Pine St., this space will feature:

  • “Super Swings” – with musical + LED lights.
  • A Big Dig sandbox.
  • An accessible playground.
  • Family restrooms, a fence, picnic tables, and seat walls.
  • A splash pad with special drainage and pumps.
  • A kid’s sculpture garden with public art opportunities.

Unity Block

Between W. Pine St. and W. Church St., this space will feature:

  • A Walk of Light.
  • Pop-up event spaces for music, theatre, drum circles, and dance.
  • Games like life-size chess.
  • A skatepark.
  • Four pride pillars.
  • Outdoor classrooms for yoga, Zumba, jazzercise + more.
  • Hometown hero walk of fame.

Market Block

Southside of W. Church St., this space will feature:

  • Vendor kiosks secured for semi or regular use.
  • Vendor tents for special event opportunities.
  • Vendor pavilions for long-term vendor locations.
  • A Church Street mural wall + pathway for patrons to stroll the market.
  • Vehicular access to vendors.
