A trip to the Queen City: American Airlines flights from Lakeland to Charlotte

Buckle up, buttercup. The NASCAR Hall of Fame, pimento cheese platters, and unlimited glasses of Cheerwine (also known as ‘nectar of the Tar Heels’) may all soon be a flight away from Lakeland. 🛩️

That’s right – Lakeland Linder International Airport is in talks with American Airlines – discussing the potential of starting commercial service between here and Charlotte, N.C., as early as next year.

If approved, passengers could pick between two to three flights a day to Queen City on a 70 or 90-seat plane.

This news is coming right off of an approval to allow Amazon to build a $100 million air cargo center at Lakeland Linder International Airport.

According to Airport Director Gene Conrad, Lakeland is in the perfect position to start talking about bringing in commercial air service as airlines are looking to grow their networks, the Central Florida population and economy is exploding, and I-4 is getting a little crowded. (We’re definitely with you on that last point, Gene.) 👋
