May 4 marked the start of Florida’s plan to reopen, and as restrictions are lifted, many Floridians are ready to (safely) get out of the house. Southgate Shopping Center is ready to fully reopen, welcoming customers to safely shop + support its tenants, while enjoying some brand new features this spring and summer.

Of the center’s 12 tenants, retailers who closed during the initial lockdown are ready to reopen, and several businesses that remained open as essential businesses will continue to operate, following guidelines from Florida’s reopening plan:

The shopping center, which opened in 1957 with its first anchor tenant, Publix, is known for its iconic 70-foot-tall steel archway. The center has even made an appearance in the 1990 film “Edward Scissorhands,” and will be featured in the upcoming Disney movie “The One and Only Ivan.”

And this summer, visitors will get to experience the re-lighting of the landmark arch with new LED technology; changing colors for different seasons, holidays + special events. The arch will also be the center of a new light show series, happening every night beginning June 15.
