If Lakeland could house a new park, where would you put it? If you said, ‘somewhere off of West Pipkin Road’, you might be in luck.

Today, approval is needed for just that — a new community park — situated near Lakeland Linder International Airport, a deal worth $7 million.

The plot of land is over 100 acres and received initial approval from the Real Estate and Transportation Committee, made up of Commissioners McLeod, Musick, and Read. Today it must receive approval from the full commission in order to move forward.

The addition of this park, should it come to fruition, would be the first ‘recreation amenity’ to come this far south making it the perfect location due to the rise of more and more communities in the surrounding area.

Presently, the nearest parks to this side of town are about a 10-minute drive away, making this new addition just seconds down the road, and the closest especially for residents in Riverstone.

If approved, the purchase of the property will close within 30 days, with a tentative opening date sometime within the next 3-5 years.
