Don’t let an unexpected detour derail your morning commute (or make the trip to your go-to spot that much longer). Instead, use these handy resources to stay updated on road projects around Lakeland.

The City of Lakeland details its current road work projects in one place. Check there to see what major projects are ongoing, including what’s in the plans, estimated end dates, and the boundaries of each project. You can also check in to see if your street is due for repaving during the current fiscal year. Follow the city on social media for the newest road closure + detour updates.

For roads outside city limits, projects may be handled by Polk County. It’s also worth a Facebook follow for countywide announcements, and you can contact the Roads and Drainage Division with questions.

Some road projects will be overseen by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). All Polk County plans are listed on FDOT’s website, where you can learn about upcoming road closures, what phase each project is in, projected completion dates, and estimated budgets. Pro tip: You can sign up for text or email updates for select projects — check each one to see if these are available.
