Lower property tax rates are on the horizon for Polk County residents

As county commissioners work toward adopting the budget for the 2025 fiscal year, one thing Polk homeowners can expect is lower millage rates for property taxes.

$2.99 billion. That’s how much Polk County leaders expect to spend in the 2025 fiscal year.

Up $44.38 million from last year, next year’s proposed budget includes funding for initiatives designed to improve the quality of life for Polk’s residents as the county continues to grow (think: affordable housing, mental health care, public safety, and recreation). One thing Polk’s residents won’t see in the budget? Increased property tax rates.

During a public budget hearing on Monday, Sept. 9, county commissioners are expected to adopt a lower millage rate of 6.6348 (down by 1% from last year’s millage rate). However, property owners can still expect to pay more in taxes due to an 11.39% rise in property values.

Before commissioners finalize the budget, attend the final public hearing on Monday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in the County Commission Boardroom in Bartow.
