Sports leagues to join this fall

Sunday night, Lakeland native and Red Sox first baseman Steve Pearce was named Most Valuable Player after bringing the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series. With two home runs that night, leading the team over the Dodgers for a comfy ride to their ultimate winning game, Pearce joins Babe Ruth and Ted Kluszewski as the only players 35 and older with multiple home-run games in a World Series. On the game, the New York Times reported, “A veteran role player acquired in a minor trade in June, Pearce has proved invaluable.”

Winding down the game, Chris Sale stood on the mound pitching the final, closing strike before winning the World Series.

So while Lakeland certainly had more than a hand in leading the Red Sox to the World Series, it’s left us quite proud and ready to play a little ball ourselves. (Or whatever sport gets your adrenaline pumping.) And as this weather finally cools down, there might not be a better time to get outside and play some competitive rugby or routy kickball.

We’ve gathered a list of recreational sports leagues to join, for anyone from the former college QB or the life-long aspiring runner. So look for your perfect fit and relive your former high school glory days with family and friends.
