A lot goes into your morning routine when preparing for a day of work, errands, and whatever else may come your way. It’s tough to remember to prepare and pack a lunch on top of everything else. Trust us, we get it.
We all know that Publix is an easy spot to grocery shop, but the supermarket also offers multiple quick + convenient options for days when you’re left at the office lunchless. We were curious about trying these options, so we did the investigating for you (consider it a free 30-day trial).
From ordering a Deli sub online for in-store pickup and doing a grab-and-go in-store walk-in to getting groceries delivered to our office, here are our Publix lunch chronicles (with what we ordered, how much it cost, how long it took + all the #protips you need). Ⓟ
💻Custom sub ordered online for in-store pickup
⏱️22 min. from order to first bite
Anybody worth their 5-grain knows the best sub in the world is the Publix Chicken Tender Sub ($8.99). Don’t even try to @ us. So the decision for our first lunch was easy. (Especially since Publix conveniently tweets when certain sandwiches are on sale. 🙌)
But for anyone who has a love affair with another sub, the process for picking one out and modifying it is relatively quick. Here’s your one, two, three.
1. Go to Publix.com, click the ‘Deli’ button + pick your sub of choice.
2. From here you’ll have the option to build your own cuisine masterpiece – from size to doubling up on cheese + adding extra banana peppers. (Which we did.)
3. After that, you’ll add your order, checkout, and choose the store you plan to pick your sandwich up from, and presto – you’re one step closer to #PubSub bliss.
We chose the Publix at the Southgate Shopping Center which is a mere seven minute drive from our downtown office at Catapult. And after getting slightly distracted by the Bakery cakes on display on the way to the Publix Deli section, there was the chicken tenders sub, wrapped up tightly and laying in its little heated manger.

Checkout/payment was super quick, so seven minutes later, we were on our way back to Catapult to enjoy our sub. And we may have “forgotten” to pack lunch several times since.
🚶♀️Grab and Go lunch in-store walk-in
⏱️13 min. from order to first bite
Publix Grab and Go options
Publix conveniently displays all of their Grab and Go options online for those that like to plan ahead. But call us spontaneous if you will because it didn’t take long to choose our lunch items and be back for the daily grind. Here’s what we got:
- Tabouli Salad Bowl ($3.92)
- Boar’s Head Grab and Go Sandwich ($5.27)
- Total ($9.19)
We love a lunch run under 15 mins.
🛒Grocery delivery to our office
⏱️76 min. from order to first bite
We’re not going to tell you exactly how long it took us to pick what we wanted for lunch – though with so many incredible + diverse options, can you blame us?
Here’s how online grocery delivery ordering works with Publix (powered by Instacart):
- Go to https://delivery.publix.com/ + enter in your zip code.
- If you don’t already have an account, create one using your email address, Facebook account, or Google account.
- From there, you’ll be transported to your digital shopping cart where you can pick + choose what you’re craving. (#ProTip: Make sure to take special advantage of the offers listed at the top of the screen – which includes everything from free delivery on certain items to coupon savings.)
- After your “shopping cart” is G2G, hit the shopping cart button in the top right hand corner of the screen. (There’s a $10 minimum for delivery, so if you need more in your cart, Publix also delivers wine. 😉)
- Put in your personal info and place your order. You’re all set. Publix will give you an estimated delivery time + even text you with updates on your Instacart Shopper.
We finally settled on two Sushi Cream Cheese Rolls, Ready to Eat ($8.29 each), Crawfish Man Dip & Spread, Smoked Lobster ($4.39), Publix Deli Buffalo Style Chicken Breast Dip ($6.65), and Stacy’s Pita Thins Sea Salt ($2.79) + Simply Naked Pita Chips ($2.79).
Here’s our ordering timeline:
- Ordered by: 11:49 a.m.
- Instacart Shopper finished shopping: 12:09 p.m.
- Shopper arrived: 1:05 p.m.
Our Publix grocery delivery
Obviously, this convenience option takes more time and is probably more appropriate for a true grocery haul delivery vs. just a small lunch order. But, it didn’t take that much longer than what the wait can be for other online delivery options (we checked a popular app’s wait at peak lunchtime, and it was up to 70 mins).
..And the haul inside 😋
A few #ProTips:
- If you opt for online delivery, keep track of the text messages you get from your Instacart Shopper. Our Crawfish Man Dip & Spread, Smoked Lobster was out of stock, which our shopper notified us about. Had we been paying closer attention to our phone, we could have picked something else for a substitution. Thankfully, our money was refunded back instantly.
- Download the Publix app. It’s super convenient to have on your phone already.
- Our favorite experience was Grab and Go. Perfect for letting your heart guide your stomach, instantly. Ⓟ
