You’ve heard of seafood sustainability — but do you know why it’s so important?
Seafood sustainability’s environmentally-responsible practices minimize the impact on ocean habitat and wildlife. In short, it means a healthier (and more sustainable) ocean ecosystem.
That’s why Publix GreenWise Market partners with two leaders in seafood sustainability to ensure all its market-brand seafood is sourced from sustainably-operated companies. All you need to do is look for the blue and green labeling. Here’s what the labels mean:
🐟 Sustainably sourced (blue)
- Wild-caught and farmed seafood is sourced from companies considered “well-managed” or fully-certified according to the rigorous benchmarks set by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) and the Global Seafood Sustainability Initiative (GSSI).
🦀 Responsibly sourced (green)
- Wild-caught and farmed seafood is sourced from companies that have an approved ecolabel, participate in a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP), or are considered “managed” in accordance with SFP and GSSI’s stringent benchmarks.
