Q: Is a private air charter company coming to Lakeland?

A: ...Maybe. 🤷

While most Lakelanders aren’t feeling ready yet to travel internationally, rumor has it that TRYP Air Charter may soon be heading to the Polk County region.

TRYP hinted at this possibility in the comments section on an Instagram post from our friends at @igersplantcity, who posted to announce a new business coming to downtown Plant City.

The comments on the post from TRYP, in response to the new businesses + the possibility of flights from the region, read, “Can’t wait. Also, we are bringing our private air charter service to the area for travel options. www.flytryp.com.” + “We will be offering charter service from Plant City, Lakeland, and Bartow airports using our Baron58 and PC12 aircraft.”

Though there’s not much information that’s been announced yet, here’s what we do know, after contacting TRYP + Lakeland Linder International Airport. ⬇️

  • TRYP is looking at expanding its services within the next few months to either the Polk County area (in Plant City, Bartow, or Lakeland) or a smaller Tampa airport + is waiting on hangar space that meets their needs.
  • Currently, TRYP offers flights from Northeast Florida.
  • Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) hasn’t heard from the charter company yet, but would be interested in the possibility.
  • TRYP was highlighted by the Jacksonville Business Journal for its disaster relief efforts in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian.
  • While there are people who utilize space for their aircraft to charter people at the airport, Lakeland Linder International Airport, does not have a private air charter company tenant.
  • TRYP currently offers flights in the US (like to our sister cities Charleston, Raleigh + Asheville), flights to the Bahamas (Bimini, Governor’s Harbour, Nassau, and Treasure Cay), and can help connect passengers who are looking to fly internationally with other charter options.
