Time really does fly when you’re having fun. After a summer of excitement, it’s time for the kids to head back to the classroom.

We know there’s a lot happening during this busy season, so we asked the experts at Lakeland Regional Health for ways to get your kids ready to go back to school — easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Establish a primary care doctor

Stay ahead of the game and find a pediatrician to help keep your child healthy throughout the year.

“The start of the school year is the best time to see your primary care provider for a checkup,” says Dr. Colton Faza, a Lakeland Regional Health physician in orthopedics and sports medicine. “Once your kids get going in their studies, their busy schedules make it hard to carve out time to see one of us.”

From the common cold to random rashes, your kiddo’s primary care physician will be your partner in health all year long.

“Checking it off the list early is preventative and means more peace of mind to avoid any potential health concerns during the year.”

2. Stock up on school supplies

Take advantage of back-to-school sales and knock out supply shopping. Plus, don’t forget to get healthy snacks for lunch and after school, and check out these three tips for making sure snacks are healthy.

3. Get an up-to-date physical

Have young athletes in the house? Be sure to get an updated physical.

“We know how much kids love to get involved, play sports, and be outside. But they need to be healthy and strong to do that,” says Dr. Faza.

“Sports physicals are often required by your school for them to participate, but it also minimizes any injury risks and addresses those concerns early on before they hit the field. Getting your sports physicals completed is another form of preventative care.”

Pro tip: If you ever need to make an unexpected visit, Lakeland Regional Health’s Urgent Care is open after school.
