The Terrace Hotel announces Centennial Celebration + 100-year emblem

Since opening in 1924, The Terrace Hotel has been an important part of Lakeland’s rich history.

In honor of its Centennial, the hotel is unveiling a new 100-year emblem and announced it will host a grand Centennial Celebration on Oct. 4, featuring month-long special menus, captivating installments, and entertainment.

Save the date + keep an eye out for more details — and, in the meantime, mark the memorable occasion by staying or dining at the historic landmark.

Community
  • Polk County trash collection fees will rise for the first time in nearly 10 years due to higher hauling costs. Starting this October, Lakelanders outside city limits can expect their trash collection prices to rise to $337.33 (The Ledger)
Edu
  • Community members can share their thoughts on the change of school start times in a new district-wide survey. Survey responses will be used by PCPS and its advisory council to help create solutions that mitigate community concerns. (WFTS)

  • A new VA clinic will open next month off of Lakeland Highlands Road near Sam’s Club. The new 100,000-sqft facility is around five times larger than the current facility on Pipkin Road and will bring services like optometry and physical therapy. (The Ledger)

  • $3 million. That’s how much money Central Florida Health Care received from Polk County commissioners to expand its Dundee clinic near US 27. The expansion will allow for more primary care for children + adults, along with a drive-thru pharmacy. (The Ledger)
Concert
  • The Polk County Youth Symphony, an orchestra composed fully of students, will perform alongside the Lakeland Symphony Orchestra next week. The groups will host a free community concert on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at Davenport High School. That’s music to our ears.

  • Lakeland Regional Health’s eighth Project SEARCH class will graduate tomorrow. Project SEARCH prepares students with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the workforce. This year, 100% of participants have already secured employment across a variety of industries.

  • Florida Farm Finder, a Facebook group founded by a Polk County woman, is helping local farms promote their businesses. Farmers can save money on marketing by posting their offerings and events to the group — which has 70,000+ members — completely for free. (Bay News 9)
