All Publix GreenWise Market locations to become traditional Publix Super Markets

Publix has announced that it will transition all eight of its Publix GreenWise Market stores to standard Publix Super Markets. The news comes less than four years after Lakeland’s location at 4747 S. Florida Ave. opened in December 2019.

When GreenWise Markets are converted into traditional Publix Super Market locations, some features — like the POURS counter where you can grab a drink to sip while you shop — may still be available. A timeline hasn’t been announced for when stores will be temporarily closed for the conversion.

In the meantime, Publix GreenWise Market is still open daily from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and hosting events all month long. Stop by Tuesday, May 23 at 6 p.m. for BINGO Night, or — if you’re a wine tasting fan like our Instagram commenter @raesha9 — visit the Sip & Sign event with Chris Benziger on Friday, May 26 from 4-7 p.m.

We know what you might be thinking. What will happen with the new Publix just across the street from the Publix in Lake Miriam Square? According to The Ledger, the Lake Miriam Publix is scheduled for demolition and reconstruction next year. It’s unclear at this time what will happen to the updated Publix in the former GreenWise Market location when the new Lake Miriam Square Publix is rebuilt.

What do you think should happen with the two Publix locations? Answer our poll and we may include them in an upcoming newsletter.
Asked

What do you think should happen with Lakeland’s Publix GreenWise Market location?

A. Close the standard Publix located in the former GreenWise Market location once the rebuilt Lake Miriam Square Publix is up and running.
B. Keep both stores open as standard Publix locations (read: Disperse the customer load between two nearby locations).
C. Something else — I’ll answer below.

✈️ 6 tips to make flying through MCO a breeze this summer

Arrived early and end up having time to kill? Good thing MCO has plenty to do. | Photo provided by Orlando International Airport/credit Eric Cucciaoni
Summer travel is on the horizon. To make your airport experience a breeze, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is sharing these time-saving + stress-reducing tips:
  1. Download the MCO App: Get indoor turn-by-turn navigation and access to security wait times, gate changes, where to eat + drink, and more. Whew, we feel less stressed already.
  2. Arrive early: MCO recommends arriving three hours early for domestic flights and four hours for international.
  3. Speed through security: Remember Disney World FastPasses? Think of MCO Reserve as your FastPass through the security line — travelers (who don’t have TSA PreCheck or CLEAR+) just reserve a timeslot and enter through an exclusive lane.
  4. Know your parking options: Before heading to the airport, check parking online. Pro tip: Utilize ridesharing or a friend as an alt.
  5. Wake up at your gate: Why push yourself for an early flight or late arrival? Instead, sleep comfortably at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, located between Terminals A + B.
  6. Get travel inspo (and save money): See MCO’s Airfare Deals to plan a summer trip to San Salvador, Edinburgh, California + more.*
Hello, summer

The NOAA will make its predictions about the 2023 hurricane season on Thursday, May 25. This year’s storms could have names like Arlene, Gert, and Nigel.

While we wait for the 2023 outlook, the season is off to an early start: Last week, a tropical wave was spotted in the Atlantic but stayed mostly stationary. Since it’s never too early to prepare, we’ve rounded up everything you can do to be hurricane-ready.

Have an evacuation plan

Polk County has 47 public shelters (see map above), three of which identify as special needs shelters and three of which accept certain pets. Don’t forget to bring your medications, water, food, changes of clothes, and other essential items.
