The time has finally come for the Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art (the AGB) to reveal its $8 million expansion that’s been years in the making. Before it officially opens to the public on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m., Executive Director and Chief Curator Dr. Alexander Rich shares his top six additions you can’t miss on your first visit — and we couldn’t help but add a few of our own.
1. The building as a whole
The AGB’s current main building opened in 1988, and the new wing’s contemporary design catapults it into the 21st century. Expect plenty of light, expansive exhibitions, and a grand staircase that’s a work of art in itself.
2. “Warhol Condensed”
There’s pride in Rich’s eyes as he talks about this new exhibition on the first floor of the Kerr Wing featuring the works of possibly the most famous American artist of the 20th century. The Marilyn Monroe portraits are sure to become a new selfie spot.
