Who’s ready for Spring Break? Our City Editors took Friday off to spend more time out and about in Swan City — Amelia swung through the farmers market on Saturday and Connor went to the Punk Rock Flea Market at Swan Brewing.

  • President Randy K. Avent of Florida Polytechnic University was the one American scholar selected for this year’s Fulbright Schuman Innovation Award. After retiring from Florida Poly this spring, the award will allow Dr. Avent to study academics + economic development in Spain.

  • The American Public Works Association selected the roundabout at Emerson Drive and Drane Field Road for Transportation Project of the Year. Lakeland’s Public Works Department completed the project on time and $53,000 under budget.

  • The City of Winter Haven and nonprofit Heart for Winter Haven are offering grants to homeowners who build affordable housing on their properties. Through the Accessory Dwelling Units Grant, homeowners can earn $5,000 per bedroom added. (Bay News 9)

  • The tennis and basketball courts at Hunt Fountain Park (2020 Duff Rd.) got a fresh look. Polk County Parks & Recreation replaced the courts with colorful tiles and installed new nets + hoops. Anyone up for a pickup game?
