How do you celebrate the person who has it all? By taking mom to one of these local Mother’s Day events. Here’s where we would take every type of mother in our lives.
For the moms who make everyone smile
Today from 5-7 p.m. at Lakeside Village, the Lagrones photography team will be taking complimentary family photos. If there was ever a time to break out your matching outfits, this is it.
For moms that are a work of art
Don’t miss Mayfaire by-the-Lake, the annual art festival that takes place around Lake Morton every Mother’s Day weekend. Spend the day perusing the booths together and picking out a piece to take home.
If your mother likes to create original art, Painting with a Twist is offering several Paint with Mom classes this weekend, plus a Mother’s Day Tea Party for little artists.
See springtime flowers together at Bok Tower Gardens.
Bok Tower Gardens is offering free admission for all mothers this Sunday, May 14. Visit at 1 and 3 p.m. to hear a carillon concert and grab lunch at the Blue Palmetto Cafe.
For something closer, take mom out to the ballgame — and follow it up with brunch. Head to Joker Marchant Stadium on Sunday, May 14 to watch the 2023 Junior College State Championship baseball games while enjoying an all-you-can-eat brunch in the ’34 Club.
You’re sure to find something mom loves at the Second Sunday Artisan Market.

Murals you can’t miss
30+ murals around Lakeland
Look for these in Traders Alley on your next trip downtown. | Photo by LALtoday
Brushes up. Lakeland’s tour of murals showcases some of the most talented local artists in our region. While our original murals guide featured 24 art pieces, here are four more murals we are really drawn to.
Magnolias, 230 N. Kentucky Ave. | By Maegan Carroll
Did you know that southern magnolias are native to Florida? These blooms are tucked away in Traders Alley.
Mosaic murals, 917 E. Memorial Blvd. | By John Garth
These mosaics commissioned by George Jenkins for the Publix in the former Searstown center were painted over years ago, but the first was restored in early 2023.
Mass Market Color Wall, 820 N. Massachusetts Ave. | By Haus 820
Sometimes simplicity is key. With color blocks ranging from blue to pink, this makes the perfect backdrop for any photo.
Dixieland mural, 950 S. Florida Ave. | By Beth Warmath
Fun twists on local icons take center stage in this bright mural, like the Southside Cleaners sign and Cob & Pen.
How often do you attend local art galleries, museums, or art events? Let us know by taking this survey.
If you’ve walked every booth at Mayfaire by-the-Lake this weekend and still want to see more, head inside the Polk Museum of Art. I’m loving the new exhibitions on view now, especially the surreal works of Steven Kenny.
