The big day — aka Election Day — is just around the corner on Tues., Nov. 8, and we’ve done the Googling so you don’t have to. To make this election as easy as possible, we’ve curated need-to-know information about how and where to vote, along with what we’re voting on — from seats to amendments. 👇
Polk County polling places will be open on Tues., Nov. 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.If you’re unsure where to go, you can request voter information that provides your registration status + polling location.
Early walk-in voting is available daily through Sat., Nov. 5from9 a.m.-6 p.m. at these locations. Don’t forget to bring your photo ID or documentation that verifies your current address.
Voting absentee? The deadline to request a mail-in ballot was Sat., Oct. 30, and completed ballots must be sent in by Tues., Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.to be counted.
What are we voting on?

Are you an individual with a disability who needs help getting to a COVID-19 vaccine clinic? Enter: Center for Independent Living in Central Florida. They assist people with disabilities in Polk County (and beyond) who may need assistance during the vaccination process.
Here are three ways to contact CIL to see if you or a family member qualifies:
$500,000+. That’s how much the Polk County Commissionhas given to local organizations in Arts, Culture, and Heritage sponsorships, which are funded through the Tourist Development Tax. The Polk Museum of Art will receive nearly $108,000 of the funding to promote events like Mayfaire-by-the-Lake. (The Ledger)

In a work session last week, the Polk County School Boardreviewed plans for a new estimated $20-30 million elementary school in Winter Haven. Planned to be built by 2023, the school would have the capacity for nearly 1,000 students, reducing strain on the nearby Chain of Lakes Elementary School. (The Ledger)

Homes in Lakeland’s historic districts like Dixieland and Beacon Hill are held to strict standards, but those guidelines could be changing. After a recent hearing on allowing certain shutters, Lakeland’s Historic Preservation and Design Review Committee discussed re-evaluating guidelines to allow safer windows. 🏡 (The Ledger)

Happening annually in November, the Margarita Ball takes place on Lake Mirror’s Frances Langford Promenade, and while there will be margaritas on deck for your enjoyment, the event really centers around assisting Polk County’s children.
