The season’s biggest sales event is live: Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, with thousands of best-selling products discounted for a short time. Here’s what The Buy team is shopping:
13.7 inches. That’s the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s current rainfall deficit, prompting even tighter water use restrictions. Starting Friday, April 3, Polk residents may water lawns only once per week or face citations, and restaurants may serve water only upon request.
Sports
Maddie McCrary, a 30-year-old golfer from Texas, clinched her first Epson Tour victory this past weekend at the Orlando Health Championship in Lakeland. Think you have the next golf great at home? Register your child for this summer’s Central Florida Junior Golf Tour.
Health
Watson Clinic appointed Michelle Sharrett, RN, BSN, CCRC as the new Director of the Watson Clinic Center for Research. Sharrett brings 26 years of experience at the Center for Research, where medical specialists are currently enrolling participants for these clinical trials.
Award
Do you know someone making significant improvements to our local quality of life? Nominate them for the Polk Visionary Leader Award. Submissions are open through the end of April, and Polk Vision will award the winner during its Annual Meeting in August.
Cause
After starting a partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay in 2020, the need at Crystal Lake Elementary School continued to grow. Today, the school operates a marketplace pantry where families can shop for fresh food. Help out by volunteering with United Way of Central Florida. (WFTS)

👀 Get a rare glimpse inside historic homes
The other homes are kept secret, but we hear that the historic Mosswood Manor is on the tour. | Screenshot via Google Maps
After taking a hiatus in 2025, the Lake Morton Neighborhood Association’s Historic Home & Garden Tour is back for its 21st year. Buy tickets now to join this walking tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 28.
Check in at the Frank Lloyd Wright Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center at Florida Southern College. Then, start your self-guided tour through 11 homes, gardens, and commercial buildings.
Set aside about two hours to visit all the homes and ask the owners questions about their architecture + history. You’ll do quite a bit of walking, but shuttle buses will stop at a few spots along the way.
Pro tip: Tickets are limited, so grab yours in advance. To register in person, arrive early at 10:30 a.m. to snag a ticket before they likely sell out.
