We know the question on your mind, Lakelanders — when’s it really going to get hot? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for June, July, and August.
While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what summer will bring.
Reminder: The first day of summer is on Friday, June 20.
🌡️ Temperature No surprises here — get ready for the heat. This summer, Lakeland has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
🌨️ Precipitation Expect slightly more precipitation. Lakeland also has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average rainfall amounts this summer.
☀️ Drought
Polk County was under a burn ban due to dry conditions from mid-April to early May, but drought conditions are expected to decline further into this season.

Everything old is new again — just ask the winners of Historic Lakeland’s Outstanding Residential Renovations awards. Michael and Annalee Mutz completely renovated a South Lake Morton century home, while Gregory Fancelli and Albert Moore preserved a historic bungalow, moving it from Orange to Lime Street. (LkldNow)

The Polk County Parks and Natural Resources Division is this year’s Environmental Stewardship Award winner. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection chose the department for its water pollution mitigation efforts, land acquisitions, and environmental education programs.
