Martin Luther King Jr. Day. City + county offices, recreation centers, and library branches are closed in observance. While most celebrations honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King have concluded, mark your calendars for the City of Lakeland’s Black History Festivalon Saturday, Feb. 15 at Jackson Park.

More security could be coming downtown as the Lakeland Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) considers installing five additional cameras across key locations. If approved by the LDDA’s board of directors, the downtown area would have a total of 19 cameras, but facial recognition features will remain turned off. (The Ledger)

After being purchased by Boston-based company Gordon Bros. earlier this month, 15 Big Lots store leases across Florida are now up for sale — including both Lakeland locations.
