City Editors Amelia + Connor here. You might not have known this, but we’re part of a team of 100+ people across 24 cities (and you’re one in a million subscribers). Last Friday, we got together with a few of our sister markets — LOUtoday, NOOGAtoday, FTWtoday, and LEXtoday — for an end-of-summer 6AM City film fest for a little team bonding.

Since we couldn’t invite everyone to our screening, we’re rolling out the red carpet to some of our top film-related stories. Is it too early for popcorn? We won’t tell if you don’t.

🎞️ 15+ movies filmed around Lakeland
Lakeland and our nearby cities have served as the backdrop for several notable movies over the years, from comedies to horror flicks to documentaries. How many have you seen?

🎞️ Lakeland’s last drive-in movie theater
Founded in 1948, Silver Moon Drive-In has provided first-run films to Polk County residents for 75+ years — and now it’s the last drive-in theater remaining in not just Lakeland, but all of Polk County.

Lakelanders can catch both new + classic flicks at the Polk Theatre each week.

From the editor
Today is our fearless Senior City Editor Connor’s birthday today. While we unfortunately cannot find a large enough venue in Lakeland to fit all 40,000+ of our subscribers for a birthday party, hopefully this shoutout will suffice. Should we all sing “Happy Birthday,” too?
