Is that the scent of freshly sharpened pencils in the air? It must mean today is the first day of a new school year for Polk County Public Schools students. This year will usher in several changes to take note of.
🛑 Safe Stop
Keep an eye out on the roads. All PCPS school buses are now equipped with stop arm safety cameras. Be sure to stop for buses at appropriate times or you’ll be hit with a warning, starting today. But the warnings stop on Tuesday, Sept. 24. After that, violators will be hit with a $225 fine.
🎓 Polk Together
The district has introduced Polk Together, a new initiative created to partner with families. Save the online resource center for upcoming webinars, educational videos, and October’s Family Engagement Conferences.
📍 Rezoning is coming
PCPS is undergoing a full rezoning exercise. New maps for elementary zoning are in development for the 2025-2026 school year, and middle/high schools are set to be rezoned in the 2026-2027 school year.
Rezoning is needed as Polk County continues to grow — plus, PCPS is among the top 30 largest districts across the US. You can find your current school zone online.
