Lakeland plant shops and florists to brighten up your day

Whether you’re taking a cue from Miley this Valentine’s Day or are hoping to impress your partner with a bouquet, the first step is finding the perfect place to buy those flowers.

Start here with our roundup of local plant shops, nurseries, and florists (because flowers are great, but ficus trees last a lot longer — hint, hint).

Bloom Shakalaka, The Joinery, 640 E. Main St.

Promising “funky fresh blooms,” Bloom Shakalaka is the perfect place to get a wrapped bunch of bright florals or a fun arrangement. Stop by The Joinery and visit the flower fridge to pick your own by the stem.

The Nectary, 1047 E. Main St.

Not sure where to start when it comes to plants? Try a native plant from The Nectary. This nursery has carried everything from native wildflowers to vines + trees. Visit to see what’s in stock and make your lawn biodiverse and beautiful.

Flower Cart, 1125 Lakeland Hills Blvd.

Green thumb not working out for you? If you’d prefer your blooms perfectly arranged, place an order from the florists at this family-owned spot, which has been in Lakeland since 1980. With an emphasis on bright flowers, Flower Cart’s arrangements will be the perfect pop of color in your home.

The Green House Garden Store, 110 Easton Dr.

Find orchids, greenery, and more at this shop located across from the Southgate Shopping Center. Celebrate the season of love at the Galentine’s Day bouquet making party on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2-5 p.m.

Meet Andrew’s Coffee — the new cafe replacing happyfastdelicious

You spoke and happyfastdelicious listened.

The lavender coffee shop on South Florida Avenue is now Andrew’s Coffee, a new concept by the same owners serving improved (and less expensive) coffee.

Andrew’s Coffee — still one of the only local drive-thru coffee shops in town — is now partnering with a family-owned coffee roaster in Central Florida. The updated beans are premium-quality and extra smooth.

In addition to coffee, Andrew’s new edited-down menu boasts a variety of blended drinks with creative flavors, tea, and lemonade. Popular drinks from happyfastdelicious will still be available (now in larger cup sizes) and the gummy worms are here to stay.

Prices have improved, too. About 75% of the menu items are less than $5.

Ready to see what Lakelanders’ feedback tastes like? Order in advance on the mobile app, in the drive-thru lane, or at the walk-up window — and experience coffee that’s still happy, fast, and delicious (but even better).

Personally, I’m a fan of skipping gifts and planning a fun date for Valentine’s Day — it’s a great excuse to get dressed up and go to our favorite restaurant. Consider this your reminder to make those reservations now; by next week, most spots will likely be full.
