Hey Lakeland, Connor here. It’s a relatively quiet weekend as the city comes back from a busy holiday season. I wouldn’t miss the very first First Friday of the year, and there are also a few comedy shows that you could hit after you walk through downtown. Here’s more to try out during the first weekend of 2024.

  • Bienvenido a BSP — Hispanic Heritage Celebration | Saturday, Oct. 7 | 12-8 p.m. | Bonnet Springs Park, 400 Bonnet Springs Blvd., Lakeland | Free entry | Shop from an artisan market, enjoy special offers from The Depot, Rooftop Bar, and food trucks, and listen to Selena tribute band Bidi Bidi Banda.

  • Brian Jones w/ Hi Lumpia FL | Sunday, Oct. 8 | 2-5 p.m. | Swan Brewing, 115 W. Pine St., Lakeland | Free | There’s no such thing as Sunday Scaries at Swan Brewing — kick off your week with music from Brian Jones and food from Hi Lumpia.

  • Mayfaire by-the-Lake is looking for artists ahead of the 2024 juried fine arts festival. On Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12, 15,000 people will peruse art of all mediums on Lake Morton. There’s $17,000 in prize money up for grabs. Applications are due by March 1, 2024.
