Downtown Winter Haven’s new Bowen Yard development nears completion
Get ready to gather, eat, chill. | Renderings by Alexine Polumbo, owner of Aviva Design Studio
Bowen Yard, a Winter Haven food and event space, is coming soon to the intersection of 4th Street and Avenue D SW. According to Beth Evans, director of leasing for developer Six/Ten LLC, the finished project will be similar to The Joinery, but “turned inside out.”
Here’s what that means. Bowen Yard will have SoCe Market (a full-size restaurant and bar) and four smaller, synergistic food + drink concepts among three buildings. Between them, patrons can dine, lounge, and enjoy live music on the shared, pedestrian-only outdoor gathering space.
Picture this: Shady patios, lounging and dining furniture, and string lights. Did we mention it’s going to be pet-friendly?
Another angle of Bowen Yard shows angled parking, shaded pedestrian areas, seating, and activities like corn hole.

Evans says patrons will be able to walk their alcoholic beverages from space to space within Bowen Yard thanks to special permitting obtained by Six/Ten. Read: Grab your favorite cocktail and start up a game of cornhole with your friends.
A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Friday, June 23, and if all goes to plan, Bowen Yard will open for business this October or November, just in time for the outdoor holiday gatherings of your dreams.

Hello, or “konnichiwa,”Lakeland. What do Swan City and Imabari, Japan have in common? The two might seem completely unrelated, but they are actually sister cities.
According to Sister Cities International, the idea behind Sister City partnerships is to cultivate international relationships while having the opportunity to explore different cultures and stimulate economic development.
No need to grab your passport. We’re giving you a quick tour of Lakeland’s five sister cities — all from the comfort of home. Without further ado, meet Lakeland’s sister cities:
Imabari, Japan
Est. 1995 | Home to a 17th-century castle, this island city in Japan is a biker’s paradise. Students from Lakeland and Imabari travel to each city to learn each others’ languages and cultures nearly every year.
The City of Mulberry recently unveiled two dozen comical road signs. They read “Beware of smartphone zombies,” and the city hopes they’ll grab the attention of drivers to prevent pedestrian accidents. This has me curious — what creative or comical slogan would you put on a Lakeland road sign? Keep them kind and clean, please.
