A recent allocation of $500,000 during the 2023 Regular Legislative Session has brought the Polk Museum of Art’s upcoming expansion to the front of our minds.
The $8 million expansion and renovation project will bring many changes to the 34-year-old building, including:
14,000 sqft of new gallery, classroom, and art laboratory space
Renovationsto the building’s facade
New flooring
Special events spaces
Updated galleries along the second floor
Classrooms
Office space
In the past, the museum could only feature a limited selection of pieces at any time. The renovations and expansion will triple its exhibition space, allowing more room for additional exhibits and collections.
On top of the cosmetic updates, the museum, in partnership with Florida Southern College, will offer opportunities for students like internships, volunteer opportunities, and other groups to assist in professional development before graduation.
The work is slated to wrap up in the summer of 2024.
