Lakeland Family YMCA to undergo $21 million renovation

After nearly 60 years, the Lakeland Family YMCAis ready for a change. Over the next four years, renovations will focus on five “key components” with an estimated price tag of $21 million. Once complete, the YMCA will henceforth be called the Bob Adams Family Community YMCA.
Here’s what you can expect to see by 2027:

💪 Wellness complex
This state-of-the-art complex will feature updated exercise equipment and larger facilities for group fitness classes.
⚽️ Field house
A two-story field house will be home to an indoor turf field, two basketball courts, and an elevated indoor track. In total, the structure will encompass 40,000 sqft.
🧸 Childcare building
The YMCA’s childcare building is getting 4,000 additional sqft of space. Outdoor spaces are also getting a facelift.
💡 Infrastructure improvements Think: Plumbing, HVAC, flooring, lighting, and roofing work on existing buildings
🚗 Increased parking
YMCA visitors will have access to 120 additional parking spots.
The YMCA is holding a capital campaign to raise construction and renovation funding. So far, Bob Adams — a Florida Southern College alumni and owner and president of Highland Homes — and the George Jenkins Foundation have financially contributed to the project. You’ll see their names on the building’s facade and field house, respectively.
The George Jenkins Field House will have two basketball courts, one indoor turf field, and an elevated indoor track.

Following permitting approval, construction will be completed in three phases:
Phase one
Focus: Construction on the new 150-space parking lot
Cost: $2.1 million
Tentative start date: September 2023
Phase two
Focus: Main campus (wellness complex and field house)
Cost: $13.3 million
Tentative start date: March 2024
Phase three
Focus: Infrastructure improvements to the childcare building
Cost: $2.4 million
Tentative start date: 2024
Phase four
Focus: Infrastructure improvements to the main building
Cost: $3.4 million
