City Commissioners unanimously approvedreducing Lakeland Electric’s monthly fuel charge by two cents in yesterday’s meeting. That means the charge for 1,000 kWh of power will decrease from $75 to $55 when changes go into effect in March. ⚡️ (LkldNow)

The wait is over. The 1,500-sqft downtown convenience store called bodega Marketis opening Saturday, Feb. 11 at 106 N. Tennessee Ave., a space formerly held by Silver Ring Cafe.
The small-scale convenience store, which plans to stay stocked with a mixture of local and mainstream brands, is owned by two Lakelanders who already have a presence in downtown: Yohansi and Amaury Santana, owners of Divicious Deli and Coffee Shop.
Here’s what to expect:
Convenient hours. The market’s hours are tentatively scheduled to be Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Flexible shopping. The spot will offer both curbside pickup and delivery options.
Variety. The spot will offer everything from food to toiletries to OTC medications. We can also expect organic and gourmet goods.
Increased sustainability. For the 1,200 residents living downtown, a local bodega will increase walkability.
Editor’s pick: Did you fill out the FDOT survey on adding a SunRail stop in Polk County yet? I think it would be great to add one downtown so I could travel to Orlando without the hassle of I-4 traffic. — and it sounds like some of our followers agree.
